Below is the famous Pont du Gard aqueduct, near Nimes, one of the regions four UNESCO sites. More than 1,000 people built it 2,000 years ago. It is about 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Saint Andre. It now attracts 1m visitors per year.

 

Nimes (below) was a Roman city originally. Today it blends ancient history with modern architecture. A popular visit is the Roman amphitheatre, apparently the best preserved of Roman amphitheatres! Nimes is 1 hour 30 mins from Saint Andre.

 

Below is one of several caves in the region - the Giant Cabrespine Cave, North East of Carcassone (one hour 10 mins from Saint Andre) one of the largest in the world open to the public, 80m long and 220m high. Stunning rock and crystal formations. http://www.english.gouffre-cabrespine.com/

Others caves worth a visit are in Limousis in Aude and Grotte des Demoiselles in Herault.

 Ceret was once home to Pablo Picasso and is famous for art and literature. It is just over 1 hour's drive from Saint Andre. Many of Picasso's works are displayed in the Musee d'art Modern.

 

 

Kayaking at Roquebrun below is just over 1 hour's drive from Saint Andre.

Clermont l'Hérault  (below left) is a small quaint old market town and nearby Lac Du Salagou (below) has beaches, walks and water activities
